Four Options For A New Stoughton High School

The Stoughton High Building Committee met Thursday, October 8 to narrow down the number of design options for a new Stoughton High School from eight to four. The Committee ended up selecting two options that would be new construction projects and two options that would be addition/renovation projects. 

By the beginning of November the Building Committee should have rough cost estimates for these four options. By the middle of November, the Committee will vote on a preferred option to submit to the Massachusetts School Building Committee (MSBA).

Option B2 (addition/renovation) can be found at the 21:58 mark in the video; Option B3 (addition/renovation) can be found at the 24:10 mark; Option C1A (new construction) can be found at the 32:17 mark; and Option C2A (new construction) can be found at the 35:24 mark. ​

SMAC Receives five awards at ACM-NE Video Festival

Stoughton Media Access staff and volunteer producers were recognized by The Alliance for Community Media-Northeast Region (ACM-NE), winning a total of five awards in the ACM-NE's 17th Annual Video Festival. 

Volunteer producers Michael Hendricks, Frank Mandosa, Roxanne Morse, Frank Walsh and Michael Wigdor were honored for their work, while SMAC Program and News director Jeffrey Pickette was also an award recipient. ​

The ACM-NE region includes the New England states, as well as New York. This year's video festival featured submissions in 20 competitive categories. Volunteer producers were judged in the non-professional division of each category, with local access staff members judged in the professional division. Programs produced and broadcast in 2014 were considered for awards.

Public Praise

Sports Wrap

Stoughton resident Michael Hendricks won second place in the News & Magazine Format category for his show Public Praise, a faith-based lifestyle program. Mixing entertainment, interviews and musical performances, this show is also noteworthy for its technical excellence. Public Praise has aired on SMAC since 2013. SHS Football HighlightS

For the second consecutive year, Sports Wrap was recognized in the Sports Programming category. The show, hosted by Michael Wigdor of Stoughton and Frank Walsh of Weymouth, is directed by Roxanne Morse of Stoughton. Sports Wrap took second place after winning third a year ago. Wigdor and Walsh focus on the Boston sports scene, mixing in some national headlines as well. The show has aired on SMAC since 2011. Click here to watch Sports Wrap's submission. REEL LIFE

Jeffrey Pickette, a Stoughton resident who has been the Program and News Director at SMAC since fall of 2013, placed second in the sports programming category for a weekly highlight package recapping each game from the Stoughton High football team's 2014 Hockomock League Davenport Division Championship season. These recaps included clips of all the major plays and interviews with players and coaches. Click here to watch each highlight package.

Michael Wigdor was also honored along with co-host and movie buff Frank Mandosa (pictured) for Reel Life, a new show on SMAC that delves into all genres of Hollywood films. Mandosa, a Stoughton resident, has been a regular guest lecturer at the Stoughton Public Library for a film series there, teaming up with Wigdor to create this new show. Reel Life, which debuted in October of 2014, placed second in the Arts and Theater category for a Halloween special looking at classic horror films. Click here to watch this episode. Dawe School Commercial

Jeffrey Pickette was also recognized for his work with Dawe School technology teacher Shane Relihan and Dawe School fifth graders. The “Dawe School Commercial: A Letter to a Kindergartner” placed third in the PSA/Short Program category.

​This commercial introduced future students to the Dawe Elementary School in Stoughton, highlighting the activities and programs offered there. 

It was created during the 2013-2014 school year and featured fifth graders from the Dawe School class of 2014 - Matthew Brown, Katerina Davis, Marcos Feliz, Jenny Foye, Nikhil Khond, Catherine Leal, Liliana Lozano, Abby Massarelli, Alyssa McColl and Haley Nelson.
